Day 3

siem reap – Tonle Sap Exploring

[No Meals Included]

The Great Tonle Sap Lake (Boeung Tonle Sap) is one the main natural wonders of Cambodia, important ecological hotspot for freshwater fish in Asia during the wet season and UNESCO designated biosphere. It is a combination of lake and river systems  that make it one of the special wonders of Asia. The monsoons in wet season also cause a unique flow reversal of the river.

This afternoon, we explore the great Lake of Tonle Sap checking out the local life with a visit to the Floating Village of Kompong Kleang or Kampong Phluk.

Colorful settlements are scattered on the margins of the great lake and it will be our pleasure to take you to our favorite spots. Time of year plays an important role here, some villages become completely dry during the hot season and lower water levels across the whole lake may make trips somewhat challenging. We will take care of your lake exploration with the best local knowledge. We will add some colorful markets into the mix as well for a great photography day out focusing on people and expanding waters capes.

On the way back to our last stop close to Siem Reap town we will stop and you can experience a local Khmer picnic! Do you dare to Eat Frogs, Crickets, Grasshoppers, Spiders and more? (This is obviously voluntary!, but you can take some amazing photos)

Accommodation: Double/Twin shared bed at Pool Party Hostel (or similar)

Move through the city and pass Raffles Hotel, the old post building, the disused train station and Cambodia’s largest market, Psah Thmei. You will have the chance to discover the market’s offerings from antique coins, gold and shoes to plastic goods, flowers and food.
